Woke up Wednesday morning in line for the ferry from North Sydney, Nova Scotia to Channel-Port aux Basques on the island of Newfoundland! We’d spent about two and a half weeks traveling from Pittsburgh (which I might blog about later).
The ferry was not full and the seven-hour crossing was uneventful. It seems that tourist season doesn’t really get underway until mid-June to early July. We’d packed sandwiches, fruit, and drinks for meals.
Finally, Newfoundland came into view. We could see some fog near the shore and snow in the mountains.
Our first stop was the Visitor Center for more information.
Then we wandered Channel-Port aux Basques and found a boondocking spot for the night. night. As we drove around we were amazed by the similarity between what we are seeing and what we saw in Iceland; hilly, rocky, barren, small, stunted trees and low ground covering. Only daffodils blooming here, some tulips just starting.
Finally, we settled in for the night at the Grand Bay West Trailhead and Beach with one other motorcoach.
