Sunday started chilly, windy, and sunny, with a beautiful view from the cliff at Boutte de Cap Park overlooking St. George’s Cape on Port au Port Peninsula.
We woke up a little early, got up and dressed and had breakfast. Tried to find the Minke whales again but they are not evident this morning like they were last evening.
Drove back down to the entrance to the park where there were pit toilets with a cute sign but they were barred and nailed shut.
Walked to see the memorial to the French Acadians who were kicked out of regions of Canada in the 1750’s with many dying in the process. There is a very similar memorial in Halifax, Nova Soctia.

Drove back to Route 1 this time along the northern coast of the Peninsula, over some of the Appalachian mountains and through interesting little villages including one called Lourdes.
Found our way through more mountains and past lots of ponds to the Corner Brook visitor center, overlooking the Humber Arm of the Bay of Islands, but it was closed. Had lunch of toasted ham and cheese with avocado and Clementines there.
Then went looking for a laundromat. Checked out two, but not impressed with either. The mainstay of Corner Brook seems to be a big pulp paper plant that dominates the waterfront. Plus there doesn’t seem to be an emphasis on public art or community beautification. All in all, we didn’t find it to be an interesting city despite its location on a big beautiful bay (arm).
Decided to find some WiFi, so we parked outside the Staples for a while. Then we went back to the visitor center, cooked dinner, and went to bed.
